Friday 4 August. Llyswen to Hay-on-Wye.

The day started over cast as we left our B&B to walk back to the bridge over the Wye at Llyswen passing the quiet pub where we had our evening meal yesterday.

The path started by sticking very close to the North bank of the river, as the picture of Shiel below shows.

There was also a noticeable change to arable farming as opposed to sheep and cattle. We passed fields of sweet corn, wheat and rape.
At times our views we again restricted by hazel hedges.

The path followed the river to Glasbury where we crossed to the South bank to have coffee an cakes  in a cafe with somewhat hostile service.

We returned to the North bank for a while before joining the busy A438 for a short stretch where we passed two brave females on horseback.

The track then headed steeply up hill but we were rewarded by good views over the Wye valley. It was now quite sunny, a much better day than yesterday. We returned to the road via a rather tricky track to Llowes.

We now had to choose between 2 tracks, upper and lower. We chose the lower one, via the very busy road and then river. The path by the river was initially very eroded.

Japanese knot weed is starting to invade the Wye as it has the Severn. We had a pleasant sunny walk into Hay-on-Wye following the river. There were quite a few people on the river edge and in canoes. We arrived about 3pm at 5 hours a short day for us. We even managed to get to a laundrette before going out for our evening meal. Our B&B is appropriately named Rest for the Tired.
