Tuesday 8 August. Hereford.

Our B&B, The Alexander Guest House, on the A438, is about 10 minutes walk from town but you need to use a subway to cross the busy A49 to get into the Eign Gate. Crossing a smaller junction (A4110) before is even more problematic. There are good traffic lights for cars but NONE for pedestrians.

Once out of the subway you are in town. We were very surprised with the number of Polish shops. Four can be seen in the first photograph and there was a fifth on the other side of the road. We even came across a Polish restaurant.

We first visited the Cathedral, much less commercialised than the one at Chester. Also an interesting brass commemorating Richard de la Bere who had 21 children by two wives!!

We then took the bridge over the Wye, and joined The Wye Valley Way returning over the next footbridge into the town.

The penultimate photograph is a park bench commemorating the Falklands war. Hereford is the home base of the SAS. They have  their own area in the cathedral.

Sadly I did not notice the litter before I took the photograph. Hereford is not a very clean city unfortunately.

The final photograph is of a lifesize bronze bull in the city centre. Guess the breed? No prizes for a correct answer.
